Am Foundation launches three primary healthcare facilities at Thoothkudi, Tamil Nadu

30 October 2019, Thoothkudi / Chennai:  AM Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Singapore-headquartered AM International, recently launched two Primary Health Care Centres at Abirami Nagar and Maravan Madam. The villages are located at the outskirts of Thoothkudi – the site of the company’s manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, India. Further, the Foundation donated a used container refurbished into a healthcare centre to the Corporation of Thoothkudi. These initiativesare part of the CSR activities for Greenstar Fertilizers Limited (GFL) and will serve over 10,000 local people.

AM International is committed to improving the health of the members of the most marginalised communities by providing them access to primary healthcare facilities. The Foundation undertakes the consolidated impact investing efforts of its member corporates.
Qualified doctors assisted by local health workers trained by the AM Foundation will manage the healthcare centres. On this occasion, the Foundation provided bicycles to the health workers to carry out field activities. 

The refurbishment of the 40-feet-long vessel into a fully equipped healthcare centre cost INR 4.5 lacs. Senior district officials from the Corporation of Thoothukudi, including Mr.V.P.Jeyaseelan, IAS, Commissioner and Dr.Vinoth, Former Chief Medical Officer graced the occasion. 

The healthcare centres will address the primary healthcare needs of the communities in these villages. Apart from providing essential healthcare facilities, the centres will offer related services, such as nutrition and immunisation to children and their mothers. Creating community awareness about sanitation and hygiene practises is another key objective

Senior executives of Southern Petrochemicals Industrial Corporation (SPIC), the parent company of GFL, including Mr.S.R.Ramakrishnan, Whole Time Director, Mr.E.Balu, Chief Operating Officer and Mr.K.Gopalakrishnan, Assistant Vice President (Admin & Corporate Services) participated in the events.
