Chennai, August, 2018 – Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in association with its research and educational wing, Eye Research Centre, Chennai is organising the 12th Annual Continuing Medical Educational (CME) programme – Kalpavriksha ’18, the National Post-Graduate Continuing Medical Educational programme for ophthalmology students. The three-day programme was inaugurated by Mr K. Pandiarajan, Hon’ble Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu. The event was presided over by Dr. Amar Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital and Eye Research Centre.
Initiated in the year 2007, Kalpavriksha (Meaning – wish-fulfilling divine tree that is a common trope in Sanskrit literature), the National Postgraduate CME Program is attended by upcoming Ophthalmologists from more than 50 medical colleges / institutes, who are undertaking exams.
The program provides a platform to listen and interact with the faculty who are experts in their respective field of ophthalmology. The uniqueness of this program is the interesting case presentation on the 3rd day. They also receive first hand tips from the faculty on presenting the clinical cases and discussion during the program.
Inaugurating the three-day programme, Mr K. Pandiarajan, Hon’ble Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture, Govt. of Tamil Nadu said, “It is indeed my pleasure to inaugurate Kalpavriksha. I would like to praise the role of Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital and Research Centre in providing ophthalmologists exposure to the latest procedures so that they can update their knowledge.”
Dr. Amar Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospitals said, “In this 12th year of Kalpavriksha, I wish to thank Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, which allocated 30 points to our CME programme. This programme provides first hand tips from experienced faculties with presentation of clinical cases and an elaborate discussion during the three-day programme. This program would benefit both ophthalmologists in acquiring better skills and the larger community including patients whom we seek to serve.”
Kalpavriksha ’18 includes Dr. J. Agarwal meritorious gold medal for the best outgoing student, Dr. V. Velayutham academic excellence award and Dr. (Mrs.) T Agarwal Award is awarded to the best student for presenting the most interesting case in the program.
In practical session, every delegate will be briefed on examining some of the most difficult cases like squint or diagnosing procedure – retinoscopy / gonioscopy. All the participants will have exposure to the latest hi-tech bio-medical equipments, which are available only in few of the leading eye hospitals of the country. The coverage includes all important exam related topics and practical exam case presentation.
A live surgery session has been organized along with provision of interacting with the operating surgeon. There will be a Quiz and Competitive Rapid fire revision round conducted among participants.
