Chennai, March , 2018: On the occasion of 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, Honorary Consulate in Chennai was officially inaugurated by Ms. Urve Palo, Hon. Minister of Entrepreneurship and IT Republic of Estonia and Minister of Industries of Tamil Nadu Thiru M.C. Sampath amidst the presence of Dr. G.S.K.Velu , Honorary Consul of the Republic of Estonia in Chennai along with other business delegates from Estonia.
Ms. Urve Palo along with Dr. G.S.K.Velu and Estonian business delegates earlier today had a meeting with Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru .Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Hon’ble Minister of Industries of Tamil Nadu Thiru M.C. Sampath and Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Dr. Manikandan invited them for Global Investors meet 2019 in Tamil Nadu to strengthen bilateral ties between Tamil Nadu Government and Estonia. They both presented business and investment opportunities in Tamil Nadu.
On her visit to Chennai, Minister of Estonia had a bilateral meeting with her counterparts of the State of Tamil Nadu, investors and other stake holders.
Minister had a session on “Business Opportunities in Estonia” to the members of the Confederation of Indian Industry and interacted with them later on this day. The focus of the visit is on bilateral cooperation in the field of ICT, digitalization, cyber security, e-governance and smart cities.
Dr. G.S.K. Velu, Chairman and& Managing Director, Trivitron Group of Companies earlier appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Estonia in Chennai. As Honorary Consul, Dr.G.S.K. Velu will work towards strengthening relations for a sustainable growth and development between India and Estonia – promoting business, culture, tourism, education and developing strategic business collaborations. Estonia Consulate office will be located at Trivitron Office in Chennai.
Estonia is a global leader in the areas of ICT, e-governance, e-health, e-schools, cyber-security and many more areas. In fact, Estonia is the first country in the world to have ‘e-voting’ and ‘digital signatures’ also because of which it currently advises the entire European Union on its digital strategy. The country also signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Indian Government in February 2014, to implement a similar e-governance system across India.
A small powerhouse with 1.3 million people, Estonia is strategically located in Northern Europe with easy access to Finland, Sweden and Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania and Russia. A number of innovative SMEs have also entered the Indian market from Estonia and some big Indian companies will soon be announcing their investment in Estonia, considering it is ranked 2ND after Switzerland in terms of economic freedom in Europe.
Estonia, renowned the world over as the birthplace of Skype, is a country known as the leader in Information Technology besides sectors like clean technologies, renewable energy solutions and others.
