Parvathy Hospital, Chennai today announced that they had successfully conducted a challenging Orthopedic procedure, Revised Knee Implant to a 6 years mobility hit underprivileged girl who succumbed to Juvenile Rheumatiod Arthritis.
In a complicated surgical treatment conducted by Dr. S. Muthukumar, Chairman & Chief Orthopaedic, Parvathy Hospital and his team of eminent Speciality surgeons, the 23-year-old Juvenile girl, K. Bhuvaneswari underwent the new technique, Revision Knee Implants which relieved inflammation, reduced pain and improved quality of life. This treatment made her get back on her feet, get back to studying and now helped her to score 800+ marks in recently held HSC examination.
On admission, the patient was in an immobile condition. Almost for 6 years, she had an intense painful swollen joint and bone erosion, which completely stopped her mobility forcing her to crawl from the bed to the chair or to the floor and could not even perform her hygiene activities. Her dreams and aspirations to choose a career and foray ahead became harder to achieve.
Clinical investigation and evaluation led to the surgeons understanding the reason behind her immobility. Both her knees had a knocked knees deformity, which had her right knee bent at a 60-degree angle and the left knee bent a 30-degree angle. This prevented her from stretching her legs, which is the primary reason for her inability to stand or walk.
Describing the procedural treatment, Dr. Muthukumar, Chairman & Chief Orthopaedic, Parvathy Hospital said,
“The patient who succumbed to Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis was crippling and confined to the bed for almost 6 years with no hope for treatment. We thoroughly analyzed the complicated condition and planned for a surgery. The surgeries were staged taking into account all her complications and the responses her body could trigger during and after the process.”
The Total knee replacement was done as a three staged procedure. With a Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis condition, the patient’s bones were extremely soft and the Knee replacement procedure was done with extreme care.
Dr Muthukumar said,
“After the successful replacement of the right knee, Neuro-vascular supervision were required to get the knee moving back and forth or get the complete stretching ability of a normal knee. The neuro-vascular expertise also determined her ability to move her ankles and foot.”
Ms K Bhuvaneswari said,
“I was not the same person as you see now. For past 6 years, I was totally bed ridden, I experienced intolerable pain and was unable to do anything on my own. My career dreams were completely shattered. Thanks to Dr Muthu kumar who gave me hope and new life. Post treatment, I am now able to stand and walk. I am happy to share with you that I was able to score 862 marks in recently held HSC examination. I am hopeful about my future now. I thank Parvathy Hospital and the entire team of doctors. Now I feel top of myself or even”.With both her knee joints replaced. Bhuvaneswari is now able to stand, walk and perform her daily routine. She is back to pursing her education, do her activities without depending on anyone.
