DST-SCIENCE CAMP 2018 INSPIRE–(Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research)

“Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research” (INSPIRE) is an innovative programme initiated by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, to attract talents to the excitement and study of science at an early age. Under the purview of DST INSPIRE program, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur is organizing a science camp with an aim of attracting and motivating the young minds of India to mould their career for research in the front line areas of science and technology. DST INSPIRE Science Camp will be conducted during 09-13 January 2018 at SRMIST.
Students pursuing science in school at XI-XII standard during the academic year 2017-18 are selected and shortlisted for the science camp if they had secured a minimum of 94.2% and above in 10th Tamilnadu state board/Matriculation/CBSE-CGPA A1 in 10th standard/ICSE-95% in 10th standard/AMU Board-86.6% in 10th standard/Viswa Bharathi-95.1% in 10th standard.
237 students are shortlisted for the participation in the science camp. The science camp will have talks from eminent scientists, industrial visits, one to one student-mentor interactions, hands on experience program, space workshop, science stage show, Quiz etc.
The convener, Dr. D. John Thiruvadigal, Dean (Sciences), SRMIST, Chennai, delivered the welcome address. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. T. P. Ganesan, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Planning and Development), SRMIST, Chennai. Dr. S. Balachandran, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, inaugurated the science camp and released a CD of “Collection of Feynman Lectures”, followed with the address by the Guest of Honour, Dr. J. Daniel Chellappa, Senior Scientist, Technical Coordination Wing, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Several mentors from premier institutions like, The Open University, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes, UK, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Chennai, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Tirupati, Tirupati, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai, University of Madras, Chennai, Bharathidasan University, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Chennai, Anna University, Pondicherry University, interacted with students during the science camp.
