OPULENT The First high Flexion Bionik Gold knee joint system implanted

Chennai July, 2018: The renowned Knee Surgeon Dr. Madan Mohan Reddy implanted OPULENT the first high flexion Bionik Gold Knee joint system for a Knee replacement surgery at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.

Many patients often associate joint replacements with many risks involved such as infections and longer recovery period, but with this advanced technology one neednt have the fear of knee implant failure or any other complications. This technology offers patients with unimagined mobility by giving them High Flexion abilities such as the ability to squat, kneel, climb stairs etc.
The Cobalt Chromium Molybdenum (CoCrMo) with its proven efficacy has been the material of choice for manufacturing knee replacement implants for more than a decade. Now the latest advanced technology makes it possible to coat implants with an inert material Titanium Niobium Nitride (TiNbN). The golden coating on the implants provides best in class biocompatibility and longevity in addition to the regular properties of CoCrMo.

With double the strength and hardness at 24.5 Gpa (1.2 times cortical bone), wear and tear of implant is almost 40% less than other CoCrMo implants and this makes them extremely durable lasting for upto 20 years and more which is far more than regular CoCr implants. TiNbN coating has better non allergic properties (almost 90% lesser allergic than Uncoated CoCrMo), so the implants have unparalleled body-acceptability making them far superior to the other knee replacements available in India. The hi-flexion design provides full flexion of leg and is ideal for Asian bone structure

Speaking about the technology, Dr. Madan Mohan Reddy says All these years, I have always looked at ways to improve patients comfort and safety. I am glad that collectively we have been able to contribute towards the same through consistent innovation.

According to a research, around 1.5 Lakh joint replacement surgeries are performed in India, every year and this number is expected to increase by 25% in the coming decade owing to sedentary lifestyle, improvement in healthcare and infrastructure and the ageing population.
