Paterson Cancer Center Marks 23 Years of Service with Cancer Awareness Programme and Free Screening Camp

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Paterson Cancer Center is continuing its Cancer Detection Screening Camp until June 30, 2026, from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. (excluding Sundays). Members of the public are encouraged to avail themselves of the screening services and take proactive steps towards safeguarding their health.

Chennai, June 20, 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to cancer prevention, early detection and community healthcare, Paterson Cancer Center (PCC), in association with the Cancer Alleviation Foundation (CALF), organized a large-scale Cancer Awareness Programme and Screening Camp for the general public on June 19, 2026, as part of its 23rd Anniversary celebrations.

Established on June 19, 2003, and inaugurated by former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Paterson Cancer Center has emerged as one of the region’s leading institutions dedicated to comprehensive cancer care, treatment, awareness and research. Over the past two decades, the center has been instrumental in promoting the message that early detection can significantly improve survival rates and treatment outcomes.

The anniversary event witnessed the participation of healthcare professionals, cancer survivors, social organizations, volunteers and members of the public. A special audio-visual presentation titled “The Journey Through the Years” showcased the institution’s milestones, achievements and contribution to cancer care over the last 23 years.

Welcoming the gathering, Dr. S. Vijayaraghavan, Managing Director and Chief Clinical Oncologist, Paterson Cancer Center, reiterated the institution’s mission of making quality cancer care accessible and affordable. Dr. Usha Vijayaraghavan, Director, Paterson Cancer Center, emphasized the importance of creating sustained awareness about cancer prevention and the need for regular health screening.

The awareness programme was inaugurated by Shri Dr. A. Amalraj, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police, who highlighted the critical role of public awareness in combating cancer. He stressed that lifestyle modifications, preventive healthcare and timely screening can help reduce the incidence of cancer and improve treatment success rates.

Presiding over the function, Dr. B. Kumaravel, Consultant Physician and Diabetologist, urged the public to maintain a healthy lifestyle and positive mindset. He underscored the importance of stress management, balanced nutrition and regular medical check-ups in preventing lifestyle-related diseases, including cancer.

Delivering the special address, Dr. Dhamu, Actor, Educationist and Motivational Speaker, inspired the audience with his message on healthy living. He called upon individuals and families to adopt nutritious dietary habits, engage in regular physical activity and undergo periodic health screenings. He also emphasized that awareness and early diagnosis remain the strongest weapons in the fight against cancer.

A special exhibition featuring medicinal herbs and their health benefits attracted considerable interest among participants. The exhibition highlighted the role of traditional knowledge and healthy lifestyle practices in promoting overall well-being.

Speaking on the occasion, the organizers noted that despite significant advancements in cancer treatment, awareness and early detection continue to be the most effective tools in reducing cancer-related mortality. They appealed to the public to make use of available screening facilities and seek timely medical consultation whenever symptoms arise.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Aadarsh Raghavan, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, speakers, healthcare professionals, volunteers, supporters and members of the public for their enthusiastic participation and support.
