*12th December 2022, Chennai*: As, Mumbai gears up to host the 1st Development Working Group Meeting under the Sherpa track of India’s G20 Presidency from 13th -16th December 2022, India’s G20 Sherpa, Mr. Amitabh Kant held a press conference in the city before the event.
The first meeting of the Development Working Group (DWG) under India’s G20 Presidency is taking place in Mumbai from December 13-16, 2022. G20 Members, Guest countries and invited International Organizations would be attending the meeting in person.

On December 13, 2022, the Indian Presidency will hold two side events – on “Data for Development: Role of G20 in advancing the 2030 Agenda” and “Infusing new LiFE into Green Development” – before the official meeting of the Working Group. The side event will be followed by a welcome dinner for the delegates at the Taj Mahal Palace.
Mr. Amitabh Kant on Monday held a detailed media briefing on G20 and the Development Working Group Meeting in Mumbai where he highlighted the importance of the G20 which unlike the G7 is a unique platform that contains both the developed and developing world.
Mr Kant spoke on the 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit under the India’s G20 Presidency that is scheduled to be held at New Delhi on 9-10th September 2023, calling it biggest conference to be held in India which would witness 43 world leaders, 9 special invitees and many international organizations and over the course of the year India would hold 215 meetings spread across 56 cities in India. He underlined India’s priorities under its G20 Presidency that include Digital Public Infrastructure, Women-led Development, reforming Multilateral Institutions for 21st Century, addressing the 3Fs (Food, Fuel, Fertilizer) challenge, Accelerating progress on SDGs and Green Development.
He highlighted that India’s Presidency comes in the midst of global upheaval, and India will have a crucial role as it sets the global agenda for the first time in this unprecedented time. He noted that the G20 being pan India provides the opportunity for collaboration between all the states and would play an important role in transforming city infrastructure, promoting ease of businesses and aids in seamless planning to showcase culture while ensuring Jan Bhagidari at the same time.
Sherpa Amitabh Kant also gave the theme of the sessions for the upcoming 1st Development Working Group Meeting at Mumbai which is set to start on Tuesday, while also referring it as the custodian of developmental agenda in G20.
