Aravind Eye Hospital forays into Chennai with its first specialized eye care centre
Chennai, September 28, 2017: With the growing demand for complex eye surgeries and accessibility to their patients, Aravind Eye Hospital, opened its first super speciality eye care centre in Chennai, today at Poonamallee High Road.
The hospital is spread over 500,000 sq.ft and includes all the sub-specialities in ophthalmology. The objective is to provide high quality ophthalmic care at affordable cost. The centre has 250 remunerating beds and a separate section exclusively for the underprivileged with 500 beds either as free services or at steeply subsidised rates.
India is the second most populous country in the world and has tremendous unmet need for ophthalmic care. Factors expected to fuel India’s ophthalmic market growth include an upsurge in dietary change-related eye diseases, growing incidence of myopia, a growing middle class, and improved access to care. In terms of treatments for diseases or disorders, the largest markets are for cataract surgery, retinal drugs, and glaucoma medications, according to Market Scope.
