Reactor support truss installed at Unit 1 of the Roppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh

Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction achieved another milestone by installing reactor support truss at Unit 1 on September 29,2019. Role of the support truss is to fix the reactor vessel in place and to bear its weight loads. It was installed as per the design, prepared by Atom story export (ASE), engineering division of Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation. Atom story export is the general designer and general contractor of the project.

“It is a very complicated job which needs maximum possible accuracy. Installation was completed ahead of schedule thanks to well-coordinated efforts of our employees and the people of the construction site,” noted Sergey Lastochkin, ASE Vice-President and Director for Rooppur NPP Construction Project. “Construction works of Units 1 and 2 are progressing according to schedule.”

Rooppur NPP is being constructed according to Russian design. The project to have two units with generation 3+ VVER 1200 reactors. The first unit of 1,200 Mw capacity is expected to be in operation by 2023 and the second with same capacity in 2024. The reactor for Unit 1 is scheduled to arrive Bangladesh in 2020.
